The shift from summer to autumn is my favourite make-up time. The light, sun-kissed freshness of summer slowly gives way to deeper, warmer tones. You do not need to buy everything new for this – often it is enough to use the same products differently. Here is how the transition succeeds effortlessly.
The summer look: light, fresh, radiant
In summer I love it when the skin takes centre stage. Everything looks fresh and beautifully bare.
- •Light textures like skin tints instead of full-coverage foundation.
- •A dewy, glowing finish that makes the skin shine.
- •Fresh colours: coral, peach and warm rosé on cheeks and lips.
- •Bronzer for a sun-kissed complexion.
What changes in autumn
With the first cooler days, not only the mood changes but the skin too. It often becomes a little drier and paler – and that is exactly what the autumn look responds to.
The skin: from dewy to satin
Instead of a high-shine finish, in autumn I choose a satin, healthy glow. The base can have a little more coverage as the summer tan fades. What stays important: always keep the skin well hydrated.
The colours: from fresh to warm and deep
This is where the real magic of the transition happens. The same areas, just in new tones:
- •Lips: from coral and peach to terracotta, berry and warm brown-red.
- •Cheeks: from fresh rosé to warm peach-bronze.
- •Eyes: from light shimmer to copper, bronze, forest green and deep brown.
The gentle transition: layer by layer
You do not have to switch overnight. I ease into it slowly:
- •Start by layering your summer lip colour with a deeper tone.
- •Swap your light highlighter for a warmer, champagne-gold shade.
- •Add a warm brown to your crease while keeping the rest summery.
- •Gradually reduce the shine and replace it with warmth.
Products that work for both seasons
My favourite multitaskers carry me through the whole transition: a warm bronzer, a cream blush in a peachy tone and a neutral eyeshadow palette with bronze and brown shades. They work in August just as well as in October – only the intensity changes.
The transition from summer to autumn never has to be a hard cut. See it as a gentle warming of your colours that suits the golden autumn days perfectly.
