A smoky eye is my fastest route from “everyday” to “evening”. After 20 years on stage I know: under dimmed light an eye needs depth, otherwise it disappears. That is exactly what this tutorial is for – the eye from my After Dark Glam look, step by step.
What you need
- •Concealer for the lid and under-eye area
- •Huda Beauty Easy Bake Loose Powder for baking
- •A palette with warm bronze, brown and gold shades – I use the Huda Beauty Empowered Palette
- •A soft blending brush, a small crease brush and a flat brush for shimmer
- •Eyeliner and mascara
Step 1: Prep the base
I apply a touch of concealer to the mobile lid and blend it well. It gives the eyeshadow something to grip and makes the colours look more intense. Then concealer goes under the eyes – but don’t powder it yet.
Step 2: Bake under the eyes
Now for my favourite trick: with a damp sponge I press a generous layer of Easy Bake powder under the eyes and let it sit for a few minutes while I do the eye. Any fallout from the smoky eye lands on the powder – not in your concealer. At the end I sweep it all away together.
Step 3: The transition shade
With a soft brush I place a warm mid-brown in the crease – in small circular motions, pulled slightly outwards. Better to build twice than to overdo it once.
Step 4: Build depth
I press the deepest brown or bronze shade into the outer corner and the outer half of the crease with the small brush. Then I blend the edge with the clean blending brush until there is no harsh line left. Under evening light this can be stronger than it looks in your bathroom mirror.
Step 5: Light on the lid
I tap a gold or bronze shimmer onto the centre of the lid with the flat brush or my finger. That is the moment the eye starts to glow.
Step 6: Lower lash line and finish
I take the same brown from the crease thinly along the lower lash line so the eye looks smoky all the way round. Now I sweep away the baking powder, draw a precise liner and apply plenty of mascara.
My tip for the lips
With an intense eye I keep the lips nude. I line them with Huda Beauty Lip Contour 2.0 and add a gloss on top – that keeps the look sensual rather than heavy.
