From Basic to Glam: One Look That Grows With the Evening

One of my favourite tricks: make-up that grows with your day. Fresh and natural in the morning, and when the evening calls, you turn the same look into glam in a few minutes. No taking it all off, no starting over.

The clever daytime look as a foundation

For the switch to work later, I lay the groundwork in the morning. Natural on purpose, but done so I can easily build on it at night.

• •A soft brown eyeshadow as a base. That's what makes more drama at night so easy.
• •A natural blush and a little highlighter, so you look fresh.
• •A nude to rosy lip that goes with everything.

The transformation in five minutes

When the evening comes, you don't need your whole kit. These few steps take you from day to glam:

1. Deepen the eyes

Grab a darker eyeshadow, like a warm brown, bronze or aubergine, and put it in the crease and on the outer third of your eye. You already have a base on from the morning, so it blends in seconds.

2. A touch of shimmer

A shimmery shade in the middle of your lid makes your eyes look bigger and more awake. Instantly.

3. The eyeliner moment

A thin line or a softly smudged kohl along your upper lashes gives the look definition. Want real drama? Add a little wing.

4. Lashes that make the difference

A second coat of mascara, or a few lash clusters in the outer corners, and your look is ready for the night.

5. The lip as a statement

This is where you decide how bold you go. A deep berry, a warm red or something glossy. Your lips are the fastest way from basic to glam.

My secret: cream products

Creams glide over your make-up without a fight and blend without looking cakey. A cream bronzer along your cheekbones and a bit more highlighter give your evening look some depth.

Do not forget: the finish

A setting spray locks it all in, so your look stays put all night.
