Icy November: Winter Glam with Silver Glitter and Rhinestones

Christmas parties are coming, and so is New Year's Eve. Time for a bit more sparkle. Icy November is my winter look: cool on the eyes, warm on the skin, and a few rhinestones that catch the light every time you turn your head.

The trick is the contrast. Silver and blue on a pale, matte base can make you look tired. Keep your skin warm and glowy, and the cool eyes really stand out.

What you'll need

• •A primer for your face and one for your lids
• •Your foundation and concealer
• •Contour, bronzer, blush and a highlighter
• •A silver glitter or metallic eyeshadow
• •A metallic blue eye pencil and a shimmery pencil for the inner corner
• •A black liquid liner, mascara and lashes
• •Loose rhinestones, mastix (spirit gum) and tweezers
• •A nude lip liner, a beige lipstick and a clear gloss

How to do it

1. Skin first. Primer, foundation, concealer. Then contour, bronzer and blush, a little warmer than you'd wear during the day. Highlighter on the cheekbones.

2. Prep the lids. Eyeshadow primer all over the lid, so the glitter has something to hold on to.

3. Silver. Pat the silver onto the lid with your finger or a flat brush. Pat, don't swipe. That's how glitter stays where you put it.

4. Ice blue. Draw the metallic blue along your lower lash line and smudge it out a little. A touch of shimmer pencil in the inner corner opens up your eyes.

5. Liner and lashes. A black wing, mascara, then your lashes.

6. The rhinestones. A few in the inner corner, a few at the end of the wing. How I stick them on is in my tips below.

7. Brows and lips. Brows defined but soft. On the lips: liner, beige lipstick, a little clear gloss in the middle.

A few tips from me

• •Glitter falls. Bake under your eyes with loose powder before you start and sweep it away afterwards. Your concealer stays clean.
• •Rhinestones: a tiny dot of mastix on the skin, wait a few seconds until it's tacky, then press the stone on with tweezers. Lash glue works too, but I like mastix better.
• •Keep the glue and the stones away from your waterline.
• •Taking it off: loosen the stones with a little oil-based remover on a cotton bud. Don't just pull them off.
