Easy Bloody Glam: Halloween Make-up with Fake Blood and a Toothbrush

Still no plan for Saturday? Then this one's for you. Two things on top of your usual glam: a bottle of fake blood and an old toothbrush. That's it. No SFX kit, no latex, no three hours in front of the mirror.

I love a Halloween look that's still pretty. A bit of shock, a lot of glam. And honestly? The toothbrush does most of the work.

What you'll need

  • •Fake blood made for skin (mine is from dm)
  • •An old toothbrush for the splatter
  • •Your going-out make-up. Mine was a pink smokey eye, and the full glam has its own tutorial on my YouTube channel (Part 1). I used:
  • •Eyes: Urban Decay Eyeshadow Primer Potion, N Beauty Metallic Eyeshadow Palette, a Jeffree Star palette, NYX Glitter Brillants, Sephora Collection Intense Ink Waterproof Eyeliner, Sephora Collection 12H Retractable Eyeliner and Size Up Waterproof Mascara
  • •Face: Maybelline foundation, NYX Wonder Stick for contour, NYX Buttermelt Blush
  • •Lips: MAC Lip Pencil in Chestnut and Clinique Pop in Beige Pop
  • •Setting: Urban Decay All Nighter setting spray
  • •A tissue and a cotton bud for little fixes

How to do it

1. Glam first. Smooth skin, a dark smokey eye with pink glitter on the lid, big lashes and a soft nude lip. The prettier the base, the better the blood looks against it.

2. The mouth. Put a drop of blood in one corner of your mouth and let it run down your chin on its own. Don't help it along too much. The messier, the more real.

3. The head. Put a little blood along your hairline and let it drip down your forehead in thin lines. One or two can run all the way down over your nose.

4. The splatter. Dip the toothbrush in the blood, hold it close to your skin and run your thumb over the bristles. Tiny drops everywhere. Practise on the back of your hand first, trust me.

5. The neck. Same trick on your neck and chest, plus a few drips from the mouth running down. Done!

A few tips from me

  • •Only use fake blood that's made for skin, and test it on a small spot first.
  • •Keep it away from your eyes. Close them when you splatter near your face.
  • •Fake blood can stain. Wear something dark and old, and watch your sofa.
  • •Taking it off: warm water and soap first, then your usual cleanser. If a pink shadow stays, a cleansing oil helps.

Rather have someone else do it?

I've got you. I'll come to you for your Halloween party, a shoot or an event. Halloween dates go fast, so don't wait too long.

The full tutorial is on my YouTube channel, and the short version is on Instagram @miriamolivia.x. No fake blood at home? Then have a look at my last-minute look with tin foil and a fork.

I like to make you pretty, even on Halloween.

Love, Miriam
