There is one look I get asked about again and again: that fresh, lit-from-within glow that looks like I simply have good skin. The truth is – there is no magic behind it, just a handful of intentional steps. After years in front of the camera and on stage, I have refined my signature routine to the point where it takes under ten minutes. Today I am taking you through it step by step.
The difference between glow and shine
One important thought first: glow is not the same as shine. Shine comes from excess oil and tends to sit exactly where we do not want it – the forehead, around the nose. Glow is light placed intentionally on well-cared-for skin. The whole look lives on understanding that difference.
Step 1: Prep the skin
A radiant glow always starts with cared-for skin – never with make-up. I consciously take my time here.
- •Cleanse your face thoroughly but gently.
- •Apply a rich moisturiser and let it sink in for a minute or two.
- •A few drops of face oil on the cheekbones instantly add a healthy sheen.
My tip: genuinely wait until the skincare has absorbed. Apply make-up onto damp skin and everything will slide later.
Step 2: Light base instead of full coverage
The biggest mistake with the glow look is too much foundation. We want the skin to show through.
- •Use a light foundation, BB cream or tinted moisturiser.
- •Apply it only where you truly need it – usually around the nose and over redness.
- •Blend with a damp sponge, not a brush.
Step 3: Cream blush for fresh cheeks
This is where the magic happens. A creamy blush melts into the skin and looks far more natural than powder.
- •Dab a small amount onto the apples of your cheeks.
- •Blend upward with your fingertips toward the temple.
- •Choose a warm peach or rose tone for a healthy complexion.
Step 4: Place your highlighter properly
The star of the look. Highlighter belongs only on the high points of the face – where light naturally hits.
- •Cheekbones, bridge of the nose, cupid's bow and the inner corners of the eyes.
- •Less is more: build up rather than overdo it.
My tip: apply highlighter with your fingers. The warmth of your skin blends it more naturally than any brush.
Step 5: Bronzer, rose and gloss to finish
Finally, bring warmth into the face. A warm bronzer where the sun would naturally kiss you – temples, cheekbones, a touch on the chin. Then a clear or soft pink lip gloss, and the signature glow is complete.
For on the go
On long days I always carry a small cream highlighter stick and a gloss. A swipe on the cheekbones, one pass over the lips – and the glow is back as if nothing happened. That is exactly why I love this look: it appears elaborate, but at its heart it is simply cared-for skin catching the light.
