From Summer to Autumn: Making the Make-up Transition

The switch from summer to autumn is my favourite make-up time. That light, sun-kissed summer look slowly makes room for deeper, warmer shades. And no, you don't have to buy everything new. Often you just use the same products a bit differently. Here's how I do it.

The summer look: light, fresh, radiant

In summer I love it when your skin is the star. Everything looks fresh, almost like you're not wearing anything.

  • •Light textures like skin tints instead of full-coverage foundation.
  • •A dewy finish that makes your skin glow.
  • •Fresh colours: coral, peach and warm rosé on cheeks and lips.
  • •Bronzer for that sun-kissed look.

What changes in autumn

As soon as the first cooler days come, your mood changes. And so does your skin. It often gets a bit drier and paler. That's exactly what your autumn look is there for.

The skin: from dewy to satin

Instead of lots of shine, in autumn I go for a satin, healthy glow. Your base can have a bit more coverage now that your summer tan is fading. What doesn't change: keep your skin well hydrated.

The colours: from fresh to warm and deep

This is the fun part. Same areas, just new shades:

  • •Lips: from coral and peach to terracotta, berry and a warm brown-red.
  • •Cheeks: from fresh rosé to a warm peachy bronze.
  • •Eyes: from light shimmer to copper, bronze, forest green and deep brown.

The gentle transition: layer by layer

You don't have to switch overnight. I take it slow:

  • •Start by layering a deeper shade over your summer lip colour.
  • •Swap your light highlighter for a warmer champagne gold.
  • •Add a warm brown to your crease and keep the rest summery.
  • •Bit by bit, take away the shine and add warmth instead.

Products that work for both seasons

My favourite multitaskers get me through the whole switch: a warm bronzer, a peachy cream blush and a neutral eyeshadow palette with bronze and brown shades. They work in August just as well as in October. Only the intensity changes.

Summer to autumn doesn't have to be a hard cut. Think of it as your colours slowly getting warmer. Just right for those golden autumn days.
